Unknown facts about SRC certificates

What is an SRC Certificate and Which Types of SRC Certificates Do Drivers Need?

The SRC (Driver Health and Training) certificate, a professional qualification document for commercial vehicle drivers, is a mandatory requirement for drivers engaged in freight and passenger transportation. Seval Şentürk, Manager of Aspir Bursa Hazardous Materials Safety Consultancy Training Center, explained the importance of the SRC certificate and the different SRC types as follows:

“The SRC certificate is a professional qualification document that all drivers operating under road transportation must obtain. Drivers of commercial vehicles such as vans, trucks, panel vans, minibuses, buses, and trailers are required to have this certificate. According to the Road Transport Law, individuals operating commercial vehicles that transport goods, cargo, and passengers must possess this certificate.”

SRC1, SRC2, SRC3, SRC4, and SRC5 Certificate Types

SRC certificates vary depending on the nature of the transportation activity. Each type is required for specific categories of transport:

  • SRC1: Mandatory for drivers engaged in international passenger transportation. Drivers who hold an SRC1 certificate are automatically considered to hold an SRC2 certificate as well. Therefore, no additional application is required.

  • SRC2: Required for drivers engaged in domestic passenger transportation. However, those who already hold an SRC1 certificate automatically qualify for this certificate without further application.

  • SRC3: Mandatory for drivers engaged in international goods and cargo transportation. This certificate is essential for freight drivers who operate at an international level.

  • SRC4: Required for drivers engaged in domestic goods and cargo transportation. Drivers who already hold an SRC3 certificate are automatically considered to hold an SRC4 certificate, eliminating the need for a separate application.

  • SRC5: Required for drivers transporting hazardous materials. Drivers carrying chemicals, flammable, explosive, or similar dangerous substances must possess this certificate. To obtain the SRC5 certificate, drivers must first hold either an SRC3 or SRC4 certificate.

Who Must Obtain an SRC Certificate?

For drivers transporting hazardous materials, the SRC5 certificate is mandatory. On this matter, Seval Şentürk stated:

“All drivers transporting hazardous materials must have an SRC5 certificate. To obtain this certificate, drivers must first hold either an SRC3 or SRC4 certificate. Every driver carrying chemicals, flammable, or explosive substances is legally required to hold an SRC5 certificate in order to operate their vehicles.”

Exam and Scoring Requirements for SRC Certificates

Drivers who wish to obtain an SRC certificate must achieve at least 60 points in a 50-question exam conducted by the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications. Regarding the exam process, Şentürk shared the following details:
